The Health & Safety Manager will lead and manage the day-to-day environmental, health, and safety activities within the manufacturing plant while owning the successful implementation, growth, and continuous improvement of the company’s EHS programs. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all corporate policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and related standards, while embedding EHS principles into daily operations and decision-making.

The H&S Manager will implement and support a robust EHS management system that promotes a proactive, zero-incident safety culture. The role focuses on risk mitigation, incident prevention, employee well-being, and environmental performance, ensuring EHS is fully integrated into plant operations.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) strategy and management system in alignment with corporate EHS requirements, corporate strategy, and ISO 14001/45001 standards.
  • Build and sustain a strong, proactive EHS culture through effective communication, relationship building, teamwork, leadership engagement, and risk mitigation across all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee daily EHS operations to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, EPD, DOT, NFPA, and related environmental and safety standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific EHS programs, procedures, and work instructions, adopting corporate/group procedures as minimum standards and ensuring site personnel understand and comply with all requirements.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of site operations, hazards, risks, and regulatory applicability; actively participate in site operations meetings, planning activities, and improvement initiatives to proactively address EHS risks.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards through regular inspections, risk assessments, audits, and self-assessments; implement effective controls to address risk, non-compliance, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and manage incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up to prevent recurrence; coordinate injury and incident reporting with HR, site leadership, and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Manage the site EHS training program, including regulatory, corporate, and risk-based training; develop and maintain a comprehensive training matrix and training plans; develop and deliver EHS training for employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Determine the need for and oversee industrial hygiene and environmental monitoring (e.g., air, noise, heat stress, emissions), evaluate results against regulatory limits, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop, track, analyze, and communicate EHS metrics and performance indicators; provide regular reporting and recommendations to site and senior leadership to drive informed decision-making.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response programs, including fire protection, hazardous materials response, evacuation planning, and drills.
  • Ensure timely preparation, submission, and maintenance of all required permits, reports, and compliance documentation for environmental, health, and safety agencies.
  • Serve as the primary site liaison with OSHA, EPA, EPD, and other regulatory agencies and non-governmental organizations; manage inspections, formal complaints, enforcement actions, notices of violation, settlements, administrative orders, and permit conditions.
  • Advise site and senior management on EHS compliance status, risks, costs, and technical or operational improvements required to achieve and maintain compliance and improve performance.
  • Support environmental sustainability initiatives, including waste management, emissions reduction, resource conservation, and continuous environmental impact reduction.
  • Stay current on evolving regulations, industry best practices, and emerging EHS trends, and proactively integrate improvements into site programs and systems.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to employee well-being, safety, and environmental stewardship, ensuring accountability and compliance at all organizational levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Das bringen Sie mit

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS roles, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations.

Demonstrated ability to conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.

Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence and engage employees at all levels.

Ability to analyze safety data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.

Experience in delivering safety training programs and maintaining compliance records.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Willingness to work in an industrial environment with exposure to varying temperatures and physical demands.

Ability to travel within the facility and attend occasional off-site training or meetings as needed.

Must be willing and physically able to observe and walk in a smelter environment.  

Must be willing and physically able to work in varying cold and heat situations.  

Could have times that are prolonged periods of walking, standing, and bending.  

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.  

Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct audits and make observations  

Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.  

Required to reach and grasp with hands and reach with arms.  

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  

Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally if requested.
