Controls & Instrumentation Engineer

Your Tasks

We are seeking an experienced Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the plant control systems and ensuring smooth and efficient plant operations. Your daily tasks will include diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, performing regular maintenance checks, and proactively implementing system enhancements to improve plant performance. Additionally, you will be involved in commissioning and start-up of our new facility and train team members on system operations.

This position requires the ability to travel internationally for training purposes. The ideal candidate will be open to immersing themselves in different cultures and working collaboratively with teams from around the world to gain a comprehensive understanding of our business and industry. This training can last between 2-6 weeks.​​​​​​​

Your Profile

 

  • System integration: integrate various systems and equipment into a cohesive process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions to streamline operations.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: responsible for diagnosing and rectifying operational issues, which can involve on the spot troubleshooting.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on control and instrumentation equipment.
  • Supporting Commissioning activities such as performing Loop checking, System Testing, Performance Testing.
  • Project Management: lead smaller controls automation projects, from conceptualization to implementation, manage timelines, budgets and resources to meet project objectives.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for the procurement and installation of new equipment.
  • Process Optimization: analyze current operations to identify opportunities for improvement, increase efficiency, reduce waste and enhance product quality.
  • Compliance and Safety: ensure all control systems and processes comply with the relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to control processes and systems.
  • Train and mentor other team members on automation processes and systems
  • In time, this position could evolve into a leadership role, overseeing a team of process technicians and guiding them through their daily responsibilities
  • Design and implement control systems: programming PLC's, creating HMI-interfaces and developing login control. 

Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC
  • 5-7 years of experience in automation engineering
  • Experience with OT/IT interface, OSI PI system and System Virtualization
  • Experience in cement, metal, chemical, or mining industries
  • Experience with server-client architecture Industrial communications such as Profinet, Modbus, OPC-UA etc.
  • Experience with automation software and hardware systems, such as PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA.
  • Experience with OT/IT interface, OSI PI system.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing and physically able to work in intense heat situations.
  • Must be willing and physically able to walk/work in, observe and spend time in a smelter environment. 
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, climbing, balancing, crouching and kneeling.
  • May have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, in meetings or presenting and training.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct audits and/or walk-throughs.
  • Must wear all required PPE when in protected areas.
  • Required to reach and grasp with hands and reach with arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to respond to any safety incident quickly and effectively and/or accident including First Responder duties.
  • Willing and physically able to travel domestically and/or internationally, if requested.
  • This is an extensively physical role
